William Defoe Vampire Hunter, I think Spierig Brothers should have gone with that title, has a better sound than Daybreakers. Daybreakers is quite unique. This is a film noir science fiction film in the future. A future that only five percent of the human race and left a more-than-capable vampire race is currently struggling with the loss of their most valuable resource is, blood. Did I mention William Defoe is it? Defoe is probably one of the best characters in the film as he was cast as the white / black Comic Relief [if that makes sense]. I look like Daybreakers, really and truly. The style and cinematography my heart, but I can not recommend this movie to a lot of film fans. The plot has more holes than Swiss cheese. And if this is a fault of poor writing or acting in combination with neutral, star Ethan Hawke was surprisingly sub-par. Daybreakers is at least worth a watch but not too serious of an eye. It is a 98-minute film that could stand to add a touch longer for development purposes.

I have trouble with my Daybreakers later events, but I could watch the first thirty minutes of this movie over and over. Some vampires beg for blood from the upper-echelon of society where others have resorted to attacking fellow vampires. Hollywood is funny, even in our science fiction fantasy, there is a recession.
There is something rarely discussed in most vampire fiction. How well does a vampire culture to assimilate technology and class structure? If Daybreakers brought an extra ten or twenty minutes on the subject would have made a better movie than what we ultimately subject to, a predictable ‘man-saves-the-day “plot. Enter Ethan Hawke. Vampire scientist, Edward Dalton [Hawke], by this I mean that he is a vampire who dabbles in science. Eddie has the difficult job of finding a good blood substitute for a soon-to-be-ravenous vampire population. Him and his buddy scientist played by Vince Colosimo, blood work for agricultural mogul Charles Bromley. Bromley is part of the upper class I mentioned early vampire too good for hunting the man on the street and squeezing their neck so that he is a billionaire out of converting people in juice boxes. The story is quite light and airy, Eddie tries and fails to find a replacement and eventually stumbles upon freedom fighting people by accident. Because of his all-around nice guy ‘character [I mean, he did not even drink human blood, he would not wait to die?] He helps them and this is where William Defoe-bot comes in!
Daybreakers jump ship when the focus has shifted from the city and the excitement of society. Moreover, the tension between the underdwellers “[vampires too long without blood begin to mutate and turn fellow vampires] and the urban society became more and more interesting only to be left to the drawing board for a lame fight between what? You guessed it already a battle between humans and vampires. It would have been interesting to see this concept followed by. A sophisticated society of vampires and their daily problems not only in a sexy way-lame Underworld and Blade 3. Daybreakers has something for you to look within the short length of the movie. The CG is somewhat inconsistent that brings me to my main point.
I hate it when a thin-film-sized budget, show me the low price. There are a handful of films that are made for, what Hollywood considers “cents”, but success stories in a way that the budget is such a non-factor. Daybreakers WETA Studios was the power of [King Kong, District 9, Lord Of The Rings] behind them, but I suspect that the reason why you see so many cheap ‘bat hunts because the producers about eight dollars and fifty cents had to name. ‘re Really sorry, Daybreakers not so bad, just really rough edges … also the end is both hilarious and nonsensical. William Defoe is your savior in this film, but it serves as a larger parcel Daybreakers disadvantage. Lionel when “Elvis” Cormac [Defoe] tells you how the course [I will not spoil] think, ‘Wow, that was cool. ” Immediately think: “Wait. Vampires driving around all the time, you mean to tell me just one person was able to find the cure?” Not only that, the character of Defoe [because I refuse to call him Elvis ... He is too cool for that] is really the only character worth worrying about. I gave little to Eddie once his character arc was revealed. His brother has that darn dog eyes, but their story was better served discussing civilian vs. soldier’s life. The blood boss’ storyline between his daughter were interesting, but not enough for me to worry about who lived or died. Really, the movie is too short to care about everyone that many, but not long enough to hate the film jump-in-logic plot. There is no reason why the treatment works, how the treatment works. You have to buy it or you see a lot of yellow-eyed people bite, then another and then freaking out.
Daybreakers allows a wide range of social commentary on the table, but ultimately let the audience down to a character-by-character basis. Go for William Defoe and stay for cinematography. There is also an epic bloodbath at the end of the film, in slow motion. I’m guessing after the Undead Spierig brothers movie [I liked] “Worst Film of 2005″ Roger Ebert made this list may be a grand shout out to him. I found Daybreakers, but chances are very few people will.
