The proverbial Crap I was concerned that
eternal Internet shopper that I am, I rue my decision to Chetan Bhagat’s ‘One Night at the Call Center’ order. The book is a complete rehash of another hot idea of a writer I rate highly as someone who knows how hot milk ideas. The first book on Indian teen fetish of IIT (Five Point Someone) won rave reviews from everyone apart from me, but I’m not a book critic anyways. For me, Chetan at best is a mediocre writer, who, though blessed with an uncanny ability of making books from the fads.
TCC AT (which is short – for better marketing, you see) is a unputupable book. The story is a disappointment and has good food, at best, a tiny Bopper soap for the idiot box. But Chetan pop up again in exploiting some hot concepts – Call Centre, Qualises, casting banks, etc etc. – and the book is excellent food for anyone looking for cheap thrills.
For Chetan next book, may I suggest some new story ideas? What about the world of news channels? Sting operations? Casting banks in news channels, fashion and politics? Gay male designers and casting banks? IIMs? IIPM? Nah, I’m just thinking outside the IIMs …
